Sealants, a real tooth saver!

Boy brushing his teeth happilySealants are an easy and affordable way to help prevent tooth decay.  We know that your children’s dental health is a high priority in your family, and sealants are an excellent defense against cavities for most children.

A sealant is a material that is applied to the teeth where decay occurs most often – the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.  These teeth have pits and grooves that are hard to clean, because toothbrush bristles cannot reach into them.  The sealant then bonds to the tooth.  The dentist may use a special light to harden the sealant.

The sealant acts as a barrier to keep bacteria and food out of the pits and grooves of a tooth.  Sealants are easy to apply.  Each tooth requires only a few minutes for application.

Applying sealants can save both time and money.  More importantly, your child may avoid discomfort and anxiety associated with repairing a decayed tooth.  Sealing a tooth is fast and painless.  Sealants can last several years before they need to be reapplied.

If you are interested in learning more about how sealants and how they can protect your child from tooth decay, please do not hesitate to call the office at 763-544-2213 or inquire about it at your next appointment.  We appreciate the chance to provide excellent preventative care for your family.
